Cougars Win Twice in Double OT Over Weekend
Over the weekend the CCC Cougars Men's Soccer team saw out two impressive results:
On Saturday the Cougars defeated the Word of Life Huskies 2-1 with a goal from Alex Chapman early in the second overtime. A goal by Logan Julian gave the Cougars the lead early in mid way through the first half, but was canceled out after a deep free kick was headed in by a Word of Life striker early in the second half. The Cougars dominated possession and all categories in the box score, but it took a late goal to put the game away.
The Cougars found themselves battling in overtime once again on Sunday against the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves. Tobiah Osborne put the Cougars on the board early when he finished a ball played in by Logan Julian. Julian assisted again to Alex Chapman to put the Cougars up 2-0 going into half. An injury in the back line and physical play saw the Cougars lose their hold on the game as Jameison Baker pulled one back for the Timberwolves. A free kick with one minute left in regulation sent the game to overtime. Again the Cougars went scoreless through the first overtime. It took some heroics from captain Casey Halloran who put the game away off a cross from Nick Shantie.
"I can't be happier for the guys. We've had a rough stretch of games, losing very close ones and playing top teams in the Region. We had a great week of training leading up to this weekend, the guys did what they had to do to win. I always ask for them to give me 90 minutes of effort in a game, and this weekend they gave me 200+ (minutes)." said Coach Briggs. A couple Cougars had statistically good weekends:Alex Chapman picked up two goals, Logan Julian picked up a goal and two assists, and Toby Osborne added a goal and an assist. "I think this was our first back to back wins in maybe five or six years. As a unit we are trying to build something special. It's little things like that that we are trying to build off going forward." Briggs added.
The Cougars are back in action for the last home game of the season against rival North Country Community College at PSU on Friday night, and then hit the road for a rematch against Word of Life on Saturday.
